You whose fear revolves around approval,

may you seek out wisdom, and

may wisdom uplift you.

You whose anger revolves around thwarted desire,

may you seek out wisdom, and

may wisdom uplift you.

You whose selfish will revolves around immature ideas,

may you seek out wisdom, and

may wisdom uplift you.

If affliction is locked away, neglected, denied:

this is like withholding medicine from the sick.

If affliction is recognized, brought out in the open, treated compassionately:

this is like administering medicine to the sick.

The old boy said: “Charity should begin at himself”

A lesser mind is focused more on the conditions of others, and less on one’s own house.

A greater mind works first on the condition of one’s own house, with all else following from there.
