Reflection items:
In what ways is our helping like the wisdom of the sun: all-inclusive benevolence, shining equally on ally and adversary, caring the least whether the other is on our team or not?
In what ways is our helping not like the wisdom of the sun: not all-inclusive, withheld from some and given to others, prejudiced against those who are not on our side?
In what ways do we help from a place of pure altruism, solely because it is the right thing to do, absent of any ulterior motive, not caring about whether we personally gain?
In what ways do we help from a place of selfishness, because there’s something in it for us, tainted with ulterior motive, preoccupied by personal gain?
In what ways do we hold back helping because of fear of rejection?
In what ways do we hold back helping because, after careful consideration of all sides involved, our heart &/or gut tells us holding back help is better for all sides involved?
In what ways do we withhold our time and energy from those in need because we are preoccupied with our own ambitions?
In what ways is our help really enabling the vicious cycle of pathological behavior?
In what ways is our help disrupting the vicious cycle of pathological behavior?
In what ways do we truly desire to help but are just confused regarding the best path to follow?
Where does conscience prevent us from peace of mind because deep inside we know we are withholding our help from others who need it?

Points to ponder:
Sometimes helping consists of actively extending a helping hand.
Sometimes helping consists of remaining silent and watching vigilantly our thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes helping others means helping ourselves first.
Sometimes helping others means forgetting about ourselves.
Sometimes helping others puts us in the spotlight.
Sometimes helping others requires we give up something precious.
Sometimes helping others is driven by good.
Sometimes helping others is driven by hatred.
Sometimes helping others involves speaking up.
Sometimes helping others involves turning away from them.
