When we are happy we are very unlikely to want to harm anyone, self or other.
Furthermore, when we are happy we want others around us to be happy as well. We naturally share the vibe.
States of greed, hatred, and chronic, persistent fear are antithetical to happiness, and are verily states of unhappiness. States of greed, hatred, and chronic, persistent fear are harmful, and not non-harmful. These contribute directly and indirectly to tension, inflammation, pain, suffering, and woe, in both mind and body, in both ourselves and others.
And so when we think that to speak and act from a place of greed, hatred, and/or chronic, persistent fear is a good idea, we are in a place of unhappiness and we perpetuate suffering in mind and body.
Where we abide in the consciousness of deep self-love, we are content, happy, discerning, and entertain no thoughts-feelings of harming self nor other. There is a natural leaning toward greater inclusivity. We find constructive routes of expressing truth whether beautiful, ugly, or mixed.
Where we abide in the mentality of unlovingness toward self, we are discontent, unhappy, non-discerning, and entertain thoughts-feelings of harming self and other. There is a natural leaning toward separation-isolation. We find destructive routes of expressing truth whether beautiful, ugly, or mixed.
Just as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, we are only whole to the extent we are broken.
Restore the chain’s weak links to integrity, and the entire chain is fit for use. Restore the broken places within us to wholeness, and our being is healthy.
Therefore, practice self-love and don’t practice unlovingness toward self. Just as a house with several rooms can have rooms that are in order and rooms that are in disorder, our mind–heart can have places wherein we are solid in self-love and places wherein we are not solid in self-love.
The low-hanging fruit, the easiest place to start restoring areas wherein we are broken: look for places within where we are quick to disparage others, examine the mind-heart for places we are chronically and persistently unhappy and discontent. Where we are unloving and hostile toward others, we are in same measure unloving and hostile toward ourselves.
Where we are quick to disparage others, where we are chronically and persistently unhappy and discontent, there we have the root conditions giving rise to unhappiness and thus to tension, inflammation, pain, disease, suffering, woe. Unhappiness stays unhappiness, brokenness remains brokenness, error persists in error.
Making ourselves teachable to Truth, we are not quick to disparage others, we are not chronically and persistently unhappy nor discontent. There we do not have the root conditions giving rise to unhappiness and thus to tension, inflammation, pain, disease, suffering, woe. Unhappiness is restored to happiness, brokenness is restored to wholeness, error is corrected.
To the extent we are well-established in self-love, we are to that same extent happy, healthy in mind and body, inclusive, compassionate, sharing, strong yet flexible, and free.
